There have and continue to be some strange occurrences in the William Hamilton Ayres trial! The San Mateo Daily Journal shut down the forum more than a week ago! Us folks from the San Mateo Area must be a bit feisty or something. The paper claims we bash certain people.
Usually, we are well-behaved that is why we made the news in the first place. California usually known for liberal view points has this case in a swirl of controversy, not since the blogging going on over Prop 8 have we seen such a debate going on....
Here are some of the little aspects of the trial that caught our eye so far:
1. A juror dropped out after possibly seeing a spiritual advisor or talking about the case, both the same thing I guess.
2. The San Mateo Journal closed the public forum, the place where us well-healed residents were hashing things out. Not sure if it was all the comments about the District Attorney's office or the one person who didn't want the pedophile book URL published! Remember the god awful book Ayres had called The Coming of Age?
3. The BIGGEST by far is Victoria Balfour, the journalist making national news, the Huffington Post. First Amendment rights stepped on, a potential Doron Weinberg witness. Wagstaffe has a little egg on his face in the press. Pretend I am using my best "Andy Rooney" voice, "I sent him a few emails but Wagstaffe ignored them." Guess he is to busy with the reporters, can't respond to registered voters!

On a more serious note though, thank you to the victims and families. Please know that you have a tremendous amount of support from the community for all you have done to bring this case to where it is today, at trial!

Elizabeth Pfeffer from the County Times was contacted today about the Daily Journal forum mistake. We set the record straight that it was a number of slanderous comments that one perpetrator made on the forum that got it shut down temporarily.
Apparently, they can't just shut down one thread or one slanderous commenter Don't know why it has to be all or nothing with the Forum moderators.
Yes, I had a feeling that was the case, with over 300 posts on one thread, one individual caused the rest of us to lose our ability to have access to information.
We think we have true free speech, but really every blog has a moderator, including the forum at the San Mateo Daily Journal.
Sometimes that one person wanted to push the envelope and went a bit too far.
That person could always start a blog of their own.
It was over 500 posts on one thread.
Yes, that person could start a pro Dr. Ayres blog. Seems that's the way he was headed.
At least he has one supporter!
Unfortunately, with most blog and board software there is no reliable way to block the few actual problem posters. For the most part those that are problematic are not willing to compromise, and either the blog or board has to be full time moderated, (An expensive proposition) or simply shut off for comments.
This does mean that it happens from time to time, that people who are otherwise legitimate posters get caught in the crossfire, and moderated out of existence.
I've done it, and it's been done to me. I guess it's just common collateral damage.
Another unfortunate reality is that a person who is there primarily to bully others has no interest in starting their own blog. It's too much work, when all they really want to do is exactly what happened at smdailyjournal: Rile up the consensus, and then get the thing shut down.
I'm glad that people have contacted the County Times to set the record straight.
New post up on Balfour's exclusion from the trial over at www.williamayreswatch.blogspot.com. The post prints two letters from Steve Wagstaffe on the matter.
This makes the DA's office look like buffoons.
Yes, Deep Sounding I agree, and the fact that the paper called everyone a gadfly, or plural gadflies it was.
I am pretty sure it should have been just one singular gadfly.
Definition: Nuisance
I gotta admit I do miss the forum.
I have only deleted one comment on my blog from Dr. Kate O'Hanlan. I felt she was trying to promote all the good she has done since her problems with the Medical Board and also termination from Stanford. I don't like my blog to be ad or billboard for services.
But the one gadfly, is not even thinking in his right mind and it doesn't make sense to take the time to read what he is serving up!
Leaving anything up to GOD as he worded it for Ayres.....one comment on that if it had been left up to GOD there would not be victims taking the stand today. Innocent children would not have been violated by a pedophile.
So GOD doesn't always have control over everything.
But blog moderators do have control over their content.
The forum is up and running but the thread on Ayres is closed!
